Forget singing your way through the 12 days of Christmas, try eating your way through them instead! Love it or hate it, we all know that Christmas isn’t really complete without a few essential components: food, drink, entertainment and… more food.

We have gathered up 12 of our favourite food, drink and entertainment ideas to get you through Christmas and New Year (both naughty and nice) and will share them with you, day by day until Christmas Eve.
From functions to gift ideas, to food specials and NYE parties, we have you covered for the food – sorry, festive – season with ideas that sing, all courtesy of our local Townsville vendors.

Welcome to Townsville Food Magazine’s 12 Days of Christmas!

On the TWELFTH day of Christmas, Townsville’s food scene gave to me: 2018 FUNCTIONS AT JAM.

With only one more sleep to go, many of us are understanding that the fun, feasting and frivolity of Christmas is already almost over – meaning it’s time to start thinking about the next thing, and that’s 2018.

Believe it or not, despite the mammoth effort we all put in to this time of year, and the monstrous calendar space it all seems to occupy, the months of January and February still exist, and so too do the myriad of other events that come with them (and you can take that on good authority from a January baby).

So while many of us are still nursing hangovers and headaches from the Christmas and NY period, others are working to put together functions for other events such as birthdays (yes, birthdays actually still happen in January), weddings, engagements, product launches, media events and more… and this is where one of Townsville’s best performing restaurants, JAM, comes in.

If you book a function with JAM for January or February in 2018, you will not only experience the best of the best when it comes to sophisticated functions in Townsville, but you will also go in the draw to win an overnight star at the neighbouring Grand Hotel, a bottle of champagne to enjoy at your function, plus breakfast for two at JAM the following day.

This is the perfect experience to boost your function or event, and for so many reasons! Here at TFM, we are all over a venue that offers private dining and stunning functions to boot – because why host your own shindig when you can have someone else cook for you (and clean up afterward)? Throwing a party has never been easier.

Contact JAM directly to book – however the team are taking a (very well-deserved) short break over Christmas, so email is your best bet to get your enquiry through and secure your spot:

JAM is an award-winning restaurant. Our passion is in showcasing modern inspired menus while providing a high level of personal and professional service. Food is at the heart of what we do. Restaurant, private dining room, function room. Winner: AGFG 2017 – 1 Chef Hat
Winner: Gourmet Traveller Wine List Award 2017 – 1 Glass.

On the ELEVENTH day of Christmas, Townsville’s food scene gave to me: LAST ORDERS AT THREE LOAVES BAKEHOUSE.

Because it’s Christmas and because we at TFM love to frequently eat our body weight in baked goods, it is only fitting that our 11th day of Christmas contender is the darn delicious Three Loaves Bakehouse.

The crew at this iconic bakery (located at The Precinct), go a bit bonkers at Christmas time, and we certainly aren’t complaining. With a list longer than Santa’s of cheery goodies like rum balls, apricot balls, gingerbread, fruit cakes and more, they are the an absolute must-go-to today to secure your last minute festive baked treats. Their puddings are full of plump, fruity bits (just like Gran used to make, only way better), and their mince pies are flaky, fruit-filled, sugar-dusted drops of perfection. You neeeeed to get on it, stat!

Open until 4pm, they have put out the call for last orders to be baked to perfection and picked up on Christmas Eve, so get in to see them to secure all your breads, pastries and super delightful tidbits to tempt your tastebuds this Christmas.

Inspired by authentic age-old processes and using fresh ingredients to create high quality baked goods from scratch. Artisan bakers handcrafting doughs and pastry each and every day to ensure depth and flavour are paramount. Townsville’s very own rustic charm bakehouse.

On the TENTH day of Christmas, Townsville’s food scene gave to me: NEW YEARS EVE AT MICHELS RESTAURANT.

We can’t quite believe it either but Christmas is only a couple days away and you know what that means? New Year’s Eve is coming.

The thing about New Year’s Eve is it has a way of sneaking up on us, so if you haven’t planned something amazing yet, and don’t plan something amazing right about now, then you’re going to end up sitting at home on your lonesome, missing the fireworks.

Lucky for you, Michels Restaurant has got your back with the best NYE dinner money can buy.

A long time favourite with Townsville foodies, Michels isn’t just a French-style bistro serving sophisticated cuisine – it’s a multi-award-winning dining destination – and they know how to turn it on in preparation for that clock to chime 12. On the EIGHTH day of Christmas, Townsville’s food scene gave to me: CHRISTMAS DAY #OTTOSTYLE AT OTTO’S MARKET.

Each year, Otto stacks his larders with the type of fare you would have only dreamed of as a whippersnapper. We’re talking spit roasts, whole hams on the bone, made-for-you hampers, the most beautiful, fresh and local stone fruit and crowning-glory ginger bread houses.

And for the first year ever, he has created a specialty menu available for you to pick up on Christmas day – pre-cooked and ready for you to present to the hungry hoards at your place. Choose from whole glazed hams, roasted turkey, salads, bread rolls and all the trimmings… all cooked with love, of course.

Orders are for pickup on Christmas day only between 9am and 11am and can be placed online via Otto’s new website now, as the cut off is tomorrow.

With a larder like this, you won’t be surprised to learn that Santa Claus has cancelled his normal lunch order with the elves this year, requesting his table is filled with Otto’s goods instead. Who can blame him really?

Download the Christmas #ottostyle brochure here or order online right now here.

Otto’s Delicatessen makes entertaining easy with an exceptional range of continental smallgoods, cheeses and antipasto mixes, sourced from the best Australian suppliers • In-house smoked meats, handmade dips and condiments • Experts in pairing complementary ingredients • Gorgeous platters to suit your budget with professional styling • Seasonal fruit and vegetables direct from our produce department • Served with fresh baked breads from our Artisan Bakehaus.

On the SEVENTH day of Christmas, Townsville’s food scene gave to me: VALUE PACKS + EXTENDED TRADING HOURS AT INGHAM ROAD SEAFOOD.

There is no doubt that Christmas Day this year is set to be a scorcher, so who wants to slave over a hot stove all day? It’s so much easier (and extremely delicious) to just take the easy route and get festively fishy with the best in fresh seafood this Christmas. Forget the dry bird and undercooked potatoes and replace them with some beautiful bugs, oysters straight off the ice, or, dare we day it – throw a shrimp or two on the barbie!

Our top spot to stock up on fish and fresh seafood in time for December 25 each year is hands-down, Ingham Road Seafood. This year they have pulled out all the stops to create an amazing and substantial list of value packs which will have you and your hungry brood sorted for both your Christmas and Boxing Day festivities, with el zilcho in the way of drama or hassle. With value pack options ranging in price from $80 to $225, there is something for every taste and budget – but be fast as their pre-orders close tomorrow if you want yours guaranteed.

But value packs aside, should you prefer to pick straight off the ice (or out of the tank) your choice of fishy fillets, delicacies and more, then Ingham Road Seafood is open all Christmas weekend – including a marathon 24 hour stint on December 23. They are even open Christmas Day until 11am… meaning there isn’t really an excuse not to have the freshest seafood possible on your table by lunch.

Download Ingham Road Seafood’s list of value packs and trading hours here now – and avoid the meat overload this Chrissy!

Our local, family owned business has long been established as one of Townsville’s leading fresh seafood retailers. Come in and check out our extensive range of beautiful, fresh seafood… you won’t be disappointed! Open every day of the year for your convenience.

On the SIXTH day of Christmas, Townsville’s food scene gave to me: $10 PARMIES AT THE METROPOLE HOTEL.

Christmas isn’t just about roast turkey and glazed hams – sometimes the season just calls for a good ol’ pub feed and it’s here that The Metropole Hotel has got your back.

The classic parmigiana is equal parts juicy and crispy, with cheesy golden goodness oozing of the top (so goooood) and to help you get your parmy fix, we’ve teamed up with The Met to offer a special that will get your chops around one (with a solid side of chips and salad), for no more than a tenner.

Yep, just $10.

How do I get at this slice of parmy heaven, we hear you ask? Grab your mates, pay a visit to the Metropole and when ordering your parmigiana, mention Townsville Food Magazines 12 days of Christmas, and you can claim it for just $10. The best part is, the special is on offer right up until the end of January (31st), so you can sample the goods over and over and over again – creating your very own ‘parmageddon’.

Experience the charm of one of Townsville’s iconic pubs centrally located on Palmer street with views of the marina. We strive to exceed our guests’ expectations by providing great food and service in a family-friendly environment. Our versatile function rooms can be darkened for presentations or opened up to natural light. All rooms boast access to a balcony area.

On the FIFTH day of Christmas, Townsville’s food scene gave to me: A SACK O’ CASH FROM TOWNSVILLE RSL

Townsville RSL isn’t your average RSL. It’s an institution for locals and it’s pretty obvious why. If you’re hungry you can sit back and take in any of their food offerings across Garrisons Cafe, Palm Lounge Bar & Tapas or their signature offering, Lavaracks Restaurant. Thirsty? Hit up either of their bars. And, if you want to unwind, then hang out by the largest screen in Queensland to catch up on the latest sports and imbibe a cold one. And, if you’re looking for entertainment then they have you covered there too –  with live music and entertainment consistently rotating on their entertainment calendar.

But the best thing you can do for yourself when it comes to the Townsville RSL this Christmas, is to get amongst it for your chance to win in their famous ‘Sack o’ Cash’ promotion. Quite frankly, we think the only thing better than a sack of toys is a sack of cash, and the crew at Townsville RSL are giving away a big fat one. $48,000 in cash, to be exact, over four massive Sundays…. and TODAY is your last chance to win.

Get down to Townsville RSL and join or renew your membership to be in the draw – it’s really that simple. There will be 12 draws worth $1,000 each, commencing every 15 minutes from 4pm – and you must be ‘present’ to win!

Good luck and happy Sunday!!

When it comes to food, Lavaracks is the jewel in the crown of the Townsville RSL. The award-winning restaurant serves premium grade meals in an elaborate, yet comfortable, setting. Lavaracks has been designed to offer an affordable dining experience and has served this up with award-winning flavour, loyalty and style since 2003.

On the FOURTH day of Christmas, Townsville’s food scene gave to me: REINDEER PACKS FROM LAMBERTS FRESH PRODUCE.

While we all await the food splendour that comes with Christmas Day, the thought of rummaging through shopping centres for hours on end and fighting off hoards of people while looking for the very best for your hungry brood can dampen one’s festive cheer just slightly.

But fear not Christmas shoppers of Townsville, as Lamberts Fresh Produce is taking the stress out of your Christmas grocery shop this year with their range of pre-purchase ‘Reindeer Packs’. The team will pick the very best of everything you need to make this year’s Christmas feast quick, convenient and delicious! With a range of pre-made packs including meat, fruit and vegetables or a combination of both, this really is the most convenient and stress fee way to shop for this Christmas Day. Simply pop in or ring your order through to Lamberts in advance and have everything brought out to your car on site or even better… home delivered!  To get started, you can download yourself their printable pack list here.

A truly local small business supplying Townsville with huge selections of fresh fruit and vegetables, sliced and whole fresh cuts of beef, pork and lamb, fresh chickens, in-house made small goods and hams, and all of your stockfeed needs. Dealing with local farmers and producers from Bowen to Charters Towers and up to the Tablelands.

On the THIRD day of Christmas, Townsville’s food scene gave to me: $12 FESTIVE FEASTS FROM THE VILLE RESORT-CASINO.

Christmas is an awesome time of year, but why should December 25 have all the fun when it comes to feasting? There is so much catching up to do this time of year, and the best way to do that is probably (definitely) over food. And sometimes, rather than the crazy, culinary spree that is Christmas Day, you just want a relaxed, no-presure chat with a few close friends – accompanied with great food of course. Thankfully, The Ville Resort-Casino has got you covered, with a brilliant little festive special at Spin Cafe.

For just $12 you can enjoy your choice from the following delectable selection:
     • Sticky blood orange and balsamic glazed pork belly
     • Beerenberg honey glazed ham
     • Roasted turkey breast with apricot stuffing
     • Sea salt and Szechuan pepper spiced calamari

If that’s not a delightful sprinkling of festive foodie cheer, than we don’t know what is… and the best part is, these festively fancy feasts are available for the entire month of December (with the exception of Christmas Day).

So if you are in need of some random Christmas deliciousness, grab some friends and head down to Spin Cafe at The Ville Resort-Casino, remembering guests at Spin must be over 18.

Spin is the choice for a quick morning or afternoon tea, or a café style lunch or dinner. Great discounts available for Vantage rewards card holders. Located in The Ville Resort-Casino’s main gaming floor. Guests must be aged 18 or over to enter Spin.

On the SECOND day of Christmas, Townsville’s food scene gave to me: $10 BURGERS FROM THE REAL BURGER CO.

Today, ‘second’ is the word of the day. It’s the second day of Christmas, it’s The Real Burger Co’s second birthday and they are celebrating with burgers so cheap, you’ll be back for … seconds!

That’s right, our friends at The Real Burger Co. have been changing the lives of Townsvillian burger lovers for two blissful years now and we couldn’t be more grateful. We could be wrong, but we’re sure a burger from The Real Burger Co covers all the major food groups. They’re a medley of delicious crunchiness and juiciness, are piled HIGH with all your favourite fillings; and (once you have figured out how to get your mouth around them) you don’t even need cutlery. Boom.

So, given that it’s Christmas time and our diets are out the window anyway, get in to The Real Burger Co. today to take advantage of their birthday burger special. ALL burgers sold today (December 14) are only $10 – even the ‘special’ ones – meaning there really isn’t a reason for you not to buy two.

The ultimate burger place, proudly serving REAL, home-style burgers. Home of the ‘Old Mate’ and loaded waffle fries, The Real Burger Co’s offerings are packed with flavour and freshness, with unique and creative combinations. All ingredients are freshly made in-house or sourced locally. You know it’s going to be good… find us on Facebook!

On the FIRST day of Christmas, Townsville’s food scene gave to me: ALL THE TREATS FROM JP ARTISAN BAKERY.

‘Tis the season to be decadent and Jean Pierre Danoy and the team at Jean-Pierre Artisan Bakery definitely know how to help you celebrate.

At this time of year, their festive treats are the talk of the town and it’s no wonder why. Their range of drool-inducing sweet treats are available now for you to pre-order, ready to take home in preparation for the big day. Their range includes (but is absolutely not limited to) traditional gingerbread houses (men and trees too), delicious white Christmas and classic rum balls. Lift your table centrepiece game with a stunning Buche de Noel (available in chocolate or vanilla), while their Christmas shaped biscuits will complete your festive food platter and help make the occasion truly special.

Christmas is a time for sweets and indulgence so we think you should just buy one of everything – why stop once you’ve started? But move now – pre orders close at midday on Friday December 15, and we would hate to have you sit down on Christmas day at a JP-treatless table!

For 30 years Jean-Pierre Artisan Bakery has supplied Townsville businesses with quality artisan breads and pastries, including a gluten friendly range, through our wholesale bakery. Providing high quality products, excellent service and offering 7 day delivery, Jean-Pierre Artisan Bakery can tailor products to suit every need, from made to order specialty products through to major functions.

On the TENTH day of Christmas, Townsville’s food scene gave to me: NEW YEARS EVE AT MICHELS RESTAURANT.
